Your next Wi-Fi upgrade may also be a switching upgrade.

Wi-Fi 7 expands what wireless networks can deliver. Turning that capability into a better customer or employee experience requires the entire network to work together.

Two examples illustrate the point:

  • Hewlett Packard Enterprise and the Miami HEAT: Their October 19 announcement describes how improving wireless performance at Kaseya Center expanded into modernizing the wired infrastructure supporting the access points. The project combines Wi-Fi 7, switching upgrades, and validation during live events.

  • Cisco and Georgetown University: In an October 15 article, Cisco describes a campus modernization combining Wi-Fi 7 with enterprise switching, network visibility, and security. The deployment supports an environment with more than 6,000 access points and 50,000 active devices, according to Georgetown’s CIO.

Different environments. The same architectural lesson.

My takeawayTreat wireless modernization as a business service improvement.

Before approving the investment, ask:

  • Which customer or employee task must work better?
  • Can switching, cabling, power, and uplinks support the new access points?
  • Have we tested representative devices under peak demand?
  • Can we trace problems across wireless, wired infrastructure, security, and applications?
  • Who owns the result after deployment?

Measure connection success, application response, and recovery time alongside coverage and speed. Evaluate AI-driven operations by how effectively they identify and resolve problems.

The vendor examples demonstrate approaches to modernization. They do not establish identical capabilities or independently verified performance gains.

Great Wi-Fi starts beyond the access point.

When did your team last test the complete connection path under peak demand?
