Exposure management matters more than ever

Graphic: Exposure management matters more than ever

Exposure management is a security priority.

Organizations do not lack security findings.

They lack the context to determine which findings create real business risk.

Exposure management connects vulnerabilities with:

  • Internet-facing assets
  • Cloud misconfigurations
  • Excessive identity privileges
  • Weak security controls
  • Sensitive data
  • Business-critical systems
  • Viable attack paths
  • Active threat intelligence

This matters more than ever.

Cloud services, APIs, SaaS platforms, third parties, connected devices, and AI agents continue to expand the attack surface.

Every change creates new relationships and potential attack paths.

Frontier AI models are accelerating this shift.

AI affects exposure management in three ways.

  1. AI increases attacker speed.

  2. AI strengthens exposure management.

  3. AI creates a new exposure layer.

An AI agent with access to enterprise data and operational tools represents both a productivity resource and a privileged digital identity.

Exposure management must now evaluate:

  • Which data each agent reaches
  • Which tools each agent invokes
  • Which credentials each agent uses
  • Which actions each agent performs
  • How prompt injection affects connected systems
  • Who reviews and stops high-impact actions

The objective is to determine which exposures create a credible path to business impact.

Analysts expect strong category growth.

Grand View Research, Inc estimates the Continuous Threat Exposure Management market will grow from approximately $3 billion in 2026 to $7 billion by 2033, a 12.7% annual growth rate.

MarketsandMarkets™ projects growth from $2.2 billion in 2024 to $7.6 billion by 2029, representing 28.3% annual growth.

The estimates differ because analysts define the category differently.

The direction remains consistent.

Organizations are shifting from periodic vulnerability identification toward continuous, AI-assisted exposure reduction.

My takeawayAI raises the value of exposure management because AI increases both the speed of attack and the speed of discovery.

Security performance should be measured by validated exposure removed, not findings generated.

Is your cybersecurity program ready to manage attack paths at AI speed?
